Q. I see you use seel studs instead of wood. Why? My builder said he would use wood. Explain why your method is better.

A. We use steel studs because of the mold and mildew. Wood becomes water logged if your basement happens to get flood. It will mold and mildew before it dries out. You should never use wood framing in a basement.
Q. I see from your website that you do not use insulation on the walls in basements. Why?

A. Insulation on the walls of a basement will never dry out if it gets wet. You will have to tear out the walls to get rid of the mold. Insulation should not go all the way to the floor.  You can use insulation on the ceiling for sound proofing.
Q. I see you use Mold resistant wallboard. What is the difference between it and the regular drywall they used in my house?

A. We use Dens Armour Plus by Georgia Pacific. It was developed for basements, soffits and places where moisture may collect or flood. It is paperless and has a fiberglass mat instead of the paper you are use to seeing. We have a link to Georgia Pacific on our main page.

Q. Why is Basement Finishing Inc.'s Vented Steel Framing System better than the Owens Corning Basement Finishing System?

A. I will list some below, but we come across more every day.
      1. We make your basement look like your existing upstairs.
      2. We don't use pressure sales.
      3. We don't use square footage  to determine your price.
      4. We breakdown our estimate / contracts and tell you just what you are getting.
      5. We allow air to get behind the walls so moisture can dry out.
      6. Owens Corning's material traps moisture behind the walls.
      7. Owens Corning's system runs the electrical wire along the floor behind the baseboards (within 2 inches of the floor).
(I wouldn't want to step on a wet floor where the electrical wires are in the water)
      8. Owens Corning's panels are like padding on the walls, ours is like your other parts of the house.
      9. Owens Corning's panel cost about $150. each. Our mold resistant drywall cost about $8.50.
     10. Owens Corning estimated a job we did for $56,000.00. We got the job and did it for $25,000.00.
     11. Our jobs are usually appraised at 2 to 2 1/2 times our contract price.
     12. Owens Corning jobs are appraised less than their contract price.
     13. Owens Corning jobs look like a moble home or an office cubicle. Ours matches your upstairs.
     14. Owens Corning markets, makes, sells and distributes this insulation type panel. We buy materials just like your builder.
     15. Owens Corning franchises its product and is geared for corporate profits.
     16. Owens Corning does not install any type of ventilation system and their product lets off gasses.

Q. How can you estimate a job such as a basement with out seeing it?

A. 46 years of experience and thousands of basements. The information we ask on our Estimate Online will give us enough information to give you a legitimate price.

Q.  How does the Basement Breather work?

A.  It removes the humidity and bad air from the basement just like your bathroom fan does in your bathroom and brings the fresh less humid air from the upstairs to the basement.  Air cleaners does not work in basements.  Have you ever seen an air cleaner remove radon gas, carbon monoxide gas, carbon dioxide and the gasses that come from the sump pump?
